On odd numbered years, SJAFB opens it’s doors for the Wings Over Wayne Airshow, featuring the best military and civilian aviators and their aircraft. Over 200,000 people attend the free event. There is a Kid’s Zone, static displays, food courts, and 2 days of airshow.
The 501st Carolina Garrison was positioned inside the main entrance hangar so everyone had to go past us to enter and exit. We borrowed Chris Gould’s Death Star Wall (Thanks Chris!), debuted several new member’s costumes and display pieces, and had a good time trooping the grounds despite temperatures hovering near (or over) 100 degrees. We appeared at the Friday afternoon Kid’s Luncheon, the Friday Night Base Party and both days of the show. We also greeted guests as they arrived at the main gate of the base.
