DESCRIPTION:Step Forward to Cure TSC® was created more than 20 years ago to raise awareness of the rare disease tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) while generating the funds to help identify new treatments and offer an array of support programs. In addition to this local walk, 12 other walks are being held across the country from April 13 to May 19 leading up to and during Tuberous Sclerosis Awareness Month in May and TSC Global Awareness Day on May 15. Last year, the national walk campaign raised $783,300. This year’s goal is $800,000.
TSC is a rare genetic disease that causes tumors to grow in different organs – from the brain and heart to the lungs and kidneys to the skin and eyes. Nearly 1 million people worldwide have TSC and approximately 50,000 in the U.S. One in 6,000 babies are diagnosed with TSC. The effects of the disorder vary greatly. Some live independently with few symptoms while others require complex care. m
The Carolinas Walk is being held on May 4th so it will feature "May the 4th be with you" decor and a Star Wars Service Dog Photo & Petting Booth.
