The 501st, Rebel Legion, Mando Mercs, etc are welcome to participate as part of the local Star Wars-themed group R2-DKrewe. This parade is our gift to the city, a zany, exuberant and irreverent downtown event in the heart of winter. We invite residents to get together with friends, neighbors, and coworkers to create high-quality, surprising and entertaining entries, add upbeat music, and strut their stuff tossing those ubiquitous beads to the crowd. Zaniness, satire, and amazing displays of populist art appreciated! We are promoting a fun, safe event for all ages with a definite emphasis on FUN!

This is our fourth time participating in this event as part of a registered local group called R2-DKrewe! This is a public parade down Asheville’s South Slope (area known for many breweries and restaurants). Distance is approximately 1 mile at a slow pace. The 2025 theme is ANIMALIA if you want to theme your costume for something animal/creature-related.


This event is open to ALL Star Wars fans, not just 501st/RL/Mercs/Droid Builders. Kids are welcome with parental supervision as long as they have some basic costume, can even be some original creation as long as it “feels” Star Wars.

We will have a flatbed trailer towed behind a truck as our Endor-themed parade float but riding space is limited to our bellydancers and key performers. Please reach out if you have a disability or concern with walking the distance. We also hope to have a sound system for Star Wars music. You will feel like a rock star!

We will toss beads, hand out trading cards, stickers, etc. Prefer not to hand out candy or flyers. Should be things people will want to collect and not end up on the street.
